Hi,

I am Aliasgar Sajjad, and I have been appointed as a Technical Advisor to guide the customers of Apagar on which product to use and how much to use. Not only this, I would be answering to queries of benefits of one product over the other in my blogs that follow.

As an introduction to Acoustics – I would like to begin as under

1) Acoustics is anything and everything to do with sound- So

a) If a place is noisy – It is still having acoustic properties

b) If a place is too quite – It is still having acoustics.

c) If a place is in between of quiet and noisy – It is still having acoustics.

2) Any and every material has acoustic properties. So

a) If a material absorbs or has absorption properties – It is acoustic

b) If a material reflects uniformly – It is acostic

c) If a material reflects sound in disarray – It is still acoustic

d) If a material absorbs a small amount of sound and reflects remaining it is still acoustic. – and so on

3) What is the right amount of sound in a Space? – Well this depends on what is the application of the space and on the user.

a) An auditorium which has musical act would require liveness over an auditorium which has acts of only speech. (Note : Not Dead Room)

b) A recording or dubbing area would usually want the room to have least reverberation.

c) A Mixing room would require a low reverb or semi live room depending on how the technical person uses his equipment and his preferences.

d) A restaurant ( Fine Dining) would require low reverbs

e) Open offices would require real Time Adaptive Sound Masking System.

And so on – so forth…. We will be discussing each area in detail as we progress through the blogs over period of time

From above you will find that the word Acoustic can be mis-used by many because it does not specify anything.

For ex: I want an acoustic fabric –

I do not know, you want a sound absorbing fabric, a fabric which can isolate sound or a transparent fabric which allows all the sound to pass through. All are Acoustic Fabrics.

Having said the above – In the next blog we shall begin with A B C D of acoustics which talk more about the above aspects of Acoustics – namely

A – Absorption

B- Block (Isolate)

C- Cover (Confuse or Sound Masking)

D- (Diffuse)
